AutoFill

[2 minutes total]

This tutorial shows how to utilize Excel’s AutoFill feature to quickly create sequential items (e.g., Student 1, Student 2, Student 3) or to create pre-made lists (e.g., days of the week, months of the year). See the Custom Fill tutorials to learn how to make your own lists!

After viewing the tutorial(s), use the back key in your browser to return to this web site.

  • Automatically filling cells with a series of text labels, numbers, or dates(1:58)

Custom Fill

[4 minutes total]

A follow-up to the AutoFill tutorial, these three tutorials show how to make your own pre-made lists in Excel to save data entry time and effort (which is always good!).

After viewing the tutorial(s), use the back key in your browser to return to this web site.

  • Importing a custom list (1:13)
  • Manually creating a custom list (0:45)
  • Automatically filling cells with custom lists and importing saved lists to another computer (2:00)

Data Validation

[5 minutes total]

These three tutorials show how to force users of your Excel file to type in data in a particular format (e.g., a number, a date, an item from a pre-defined list). Data validation is an extremely useful tool (particularly in combination with Protection)when creating data collection and/or analysis templates because you can ensure accurate data entry.

After viewing the tutorial(s), use the back key in your browser to return to this web site.

  • Preventing data entry errors with data validation lists (2:30)
  • Validating data with numbers and decimals (1:05)
  • Creating an input message and an error alert message (1:41)

You may need to turn off your browser’s pop-up blocker or install the latest Flash plug-in to view these tutorials.
