  • Page Set-up

    [10 minutes total]

These seven tutorials show how to format your raw data files for printing. Create customized headers and footers; put that one column that prints on its own page back with the others; and print column headings on every page, not just the first one!

After viewing the tutorial(s), use the back key in your browser to return to this web site.

    • Print setup with page orientation and scaling(2:05)
    • Print setup with margins and centering (0:38)
    • Print setup with headers and footers utilizing preformatted and custom items, such as page numbering (2:19)
    • Print setup with sheet selections, such as print area and rows to repeat(1:41)
    • Print setup with sheet selections, such as gridlines and row/column headings (0:32)
    • Print setup with set print area (0:52)
    • Print setup with page breaks(1:47)

    Format Cells

    [10 minutes total]

These seven tutorials show how to format your Excel cells and worksheets. Use color, text alignment, borders, and other formatting features to make your data easy to read and analyze!

After viewing the tutorial(s), use the back key in your browser to return to this web site.

    • Formatting numbers as percentages, dates, etc. (1:35)
    • Changing alignment of cells (text alignment, wrapping, diagonal slanting)(1:17)
    • Changing fonts (bold, italic, color, font, size) (0:47)
    • Adding a border (inside/outside, line style, color) (1:34)
    • Adjusting a cell’s background color and pattern (1:04)
    • Locking or unlocking cells (0:25)
    • Demonstrating efficient formatting through global selection, formatting buttons, and use of colors and borders (3:08)

    Autoformat

    [3 minutes total]

Although the Format cells feature in Excel gives you complete control over the appearance of your data, it also can be somewhat time-consuming. Microsoft has thoughtfully included an AutoFormat feature in Excel that allows you to quickly format data for analysis or reporting. These two tutorials show how to use this handy feature.

After viewing the tutorial(s), use the back key in your browser to return to this web site.

    • AutoFormatting with preselected styles (1:14)
    • Changing AutoFormatting options, like font, alignment, and color (2:12)

    Rows and columns

    [5 minutes total]

These three tutorials show how to resize, hide, and otherwise format your row and column data. The ability to quickly resize columns to fit their data is especially useful.

After viewing the tutorial(s), use the back key in your browser to return to this web site.

    • Resizing rows by changing row heights (1:24)
    • Resizing columns by changing column widths (1:39)
    • Hiding and unhiding rows and columns (1:53)

    Conditional formatting

    [12 minutes total]

Imagine being able to quickly color code all of the data in one or more columns to highlight patterns and trends in your data file. That’s what the Conditional formatting feature does and why it’s one of the most useful Excel skills educators can possess (it’s especially useful when combined with Excel’s Filter feature). These five tutorials show how to use this powerful tool.

After viewing the tutorial(s), use the back key in your browser to return to this web site.

    • Changing a numerical cell’s color with single conditional formatting conditions (2:17)
    • Changing a numerical cell’s color with multiple conditional formatting conditions (1:50)
    • Changing a text cell’s color with single conditional formatting conditions (0:55)
    • Changing a text cell’s color with multiple conditional formatting conditions (2:53)
    • Changing a cell’s color with calculated value conditions (3:58)

You may need to turn off your browser’s pop-up blocker or install the latest Flash plug-in to view these tutorials.
